LoL, Bloo, that's funny. I see you at the Hobbiton farmland all the time. I'm Turlough, the meek and mild mannered Hobbit Yeoman. I definitely remember you, because I liked your name, and guild name. Amused and Confused. :b Look me up sometime. Turlough Judoc Caolan Talariel And I am loving the game so far. The abundance of quests is....refreshing. The scripting of the quests so far has been excellent. Yes they are the same run of the mill quests as all other mmo's, but the storylines more than make up for that, making them seem, *not* the usual run of the mill quests. The deliver of mail quests crack me up. Anyhow, I already made a long winded post on the Bar Rail concerning LoTRO, so I won't bore you again here. Lorcan

Sorry to post twice. But I finally was able to read the rest of the posts.
A couple of comments. I have explored the pvp aspect of this game and enjoy it immensely. The ability to play the bad guy without have to *be* the bad guy is fun. I have always had difficulty creating and playing an evil character in most games, even pvp ones, because it kind of goes again the grain of who I am, I suppose. But this game allows me to play an evil character, without requiring me to constantly play the evil character. When I'm done frying some hobbits and elves, I can go back to who my character really is. That, and the fact that the pvp is really a separate game. So you won't see pvp battles in the normal run of the game...refreshing.
Levelling. I love the ability to level without a lot of combat. And the Shire delivers that, again according to lore, the Shire is overall a peace loving community, that may have minor skirmishes (especially as the evil grows). My hobbit has levelled more or less without combat, and probably could continue to do so for some time, since a lot of the non combat quests are repeatable. Sure he won't be an uber hobbit just by staying in the Shire, but what hobbit was (in the lore). The hobbits that toughened up, were the ones that strayed outside the bounds of the Shire.
As far as the immersion, wow, I love what they have done. Myself and another Tolkien fan have done more oogling over sites than we have questing. We actually made the run from the Shire to Rivendell (at level 10, believe it or not) just to see the sites. We made it without dying too! Although it was a close call a couple of time. :lol I feel like I am *in* the Tolkien universe. It reminds me of when I first fired up SWG during beta and began to wow over the locales. I still fondly remember seeing Naboo, Corellia, and many other locations, then I remember how they tinkered just a little too much.
The game overall is well done. My only fear is that they may be swayed by the almighty dollar, and the cries of the phat lootz players, and mess with the core gameplay and storyline, like they did in SWG and ruin a good game. However, if that happens, then I guess I can do as I did in SWG, and quit supporting them with my money, and just remember 'how it used to be'.
Safe journeys to you all.

Yay, Lorcan! I recognize those names too from running around! If you want an invite to our little humble guild, let me know. We'd love to have ya. So far, it's just us old FXers, Danea's hubby, Aidin's roomie, and one of my WoW buddies.
I totally agree with you about how the game feels like the old SWG days in terms of exploration. There are a lot of social elements that I see to be as promising as SWG's. I love farming. Not only does it give you the opportunity to be social since you're in a field with usually the same people every night, you can also get some rl things taken care of too without being completely afk. It was also a viable source for earning gold (before this last patch anyway). And I've already gone on about /music. When I'm not farming and exploring, I'm standing around Bree, outside the Prancing Pony, playing it up. It's fun when you can get a group of people who know how to play the notes using different instruments!
Oh! We also made a death run to Rivendell in our early teens, as you can see from the screenshots I posted. Hehe! It was very fun to meet all the important characters from the book.
You must get Kea to play too!

I just read about this on the beta forums. Not sure if you guys have heard about it. But I really like this feature! beta.lotro.com/showthread.php?t=19328For those that can't log in.. it says... Social Accomplishments Catalogue Ok I was playing around with the emotes in Combe tonight with a bunch of other testers. I noticed that there seem to be more social accomplishments added. That got me thinking that we really should have some sort of listing of how you earn these accomplishments and what the rewards are. Erego, this thread came into existence. Any help in cataloguing these accomplishments and their respective rewards would be appreciated. Social Accomplishments that Yield Emotes: * Fire-Breather: If you recieve 100 cheers you get the /firebreath emote. This can only be incremented 5 times per day. * Hero: If you recieve 100 bows you get the /heropose emote. This can only be incremented 5 times per day. * Juggler: If you are laughed at 200 times you get the /juggle emote. This can only be incremented 6? times per day. * Swordsalute: If you are saluted 100 times you get the /swordsalute emote. This can only be incremented 5 times per day. Social Accomplishments that Yield Titles: * Adorable: If you are hugged 100 times you recieve the title of "the Adorable". This can only be incremented 5 times per day. (The Devs have temporarily disabled the /hug emote, to work on a new animation for it. Although I like animation improvements, don't ask me why they needed to disable the old one in the mean time.*shrug*) * Alluring: If you are flirted with 100 times you recieve the title of "the Alluring". This can only be incremented 5 times per day. * Befuddling: If you are the target of the /confused emote 100 times you recieve the title of "the Befuddling". This can only be incremented 5 times per day. * Beloved: If you are kissed 100 times you recieve the title of "the Beloved". This can only be incremented 5 times per day. * Dull: If you targeted by the /bored command 100 times you recieve the title of "the Dull". This can only be incremented 5 times per day. * Harrassed: If other people beg you 100 times you recieve the title of "the Harrassed". This can only be incremented 5 times per day. * Helpful: If you are thanked 100 times you recieve the title of "the Helpful". This can only be incremented 5 times per day. * Infuriating: If are the target of the /angry emote 100 times you recieve the title of "the Infuriating". This can only be incremented 5 times per day. * Insulted: If a rude gesture is preformed towards you 200 times you recieve the title of "the Insulted". This can only be incremented 6? times per day. * Intimidating: If people cower before you 40 times you recieve the title of "the Intimidating". This can only be incremented 2 times per day. * Naughty: If you are scolded by others 100 times you recieve the title of "the Naughty". This can only be incremented 5 times per day. * Ridiculed: If you are mocked 100 times you recieve the title of "the Naughty". This can only be incremented 5 times per day. * Victorious: If others surrender to you 40 times you recieve the title of "the Victorious". This can only be incremented 2 times per day. Major Edit: It has been confirmed that as of the 2/22/07 patch all of the emote accomplishments are still functioning but remain unseen on the Social Accomplishments Page. Some Dev input would still really be appreciated as to whether not their entries will be returned! Last edited by Wanderer : Feb 23 2007 at 06:07 PM. Reason: Updating status of these accomplishments

Fun Stuff! The use of the word "increments" I shall take to mean as thus: if "Beloved" status can only be incremented 5 times per day, then you need to be kissed by five (different?) people a day for twenty days in a row to become labelled, "The Beloved." Is that correct? Myself, I think I'm feeling Naughty. . . better get those scolds ready!

It means that it can go up only 5 times per day no matter how many different people do it. It can be one person five times or 5 people one time each day.

Dang it Billie! I was blissfully ignorant in my World of Warcrack hidey hole...but now you had to go and lure me out. It looks good...almost too good. Too SWG-like. Once bitten, twice shy...will this be the same? Will LotRO string me along for a while with excuses and gifts everytime I stray and then kick me to the curb when it decides I don't suit it's style anymore and runs off with a string of hot lightsaber-weilding wizard-rangers?
I don't want my heart broken again, what will I do?!

Dang it Billie! I was blissfully ignorant in my World of Warcrack hidey hole...but now you had to go and lure me out. I don't want my heart broken again, what will I do?! Alas, my WoW game time card ran out, so yeah, I can't talk to you live anymore unless you come over to LOTRO. Then you can talk to Bloo, and Simmus, and Aidin, and Kealynn, and Danea, and. . . the list goes on and on! ;D But you've got a couple weeks to brood on it because I think the Closed Beta is in fact closed, but Open Beta starts near the end of this month. The pre-order demo disc (with bonus items) is easilly gettable at your local finer gaming establishment. (Not naming any names--but there's only like one big national chain now, d'oh!) Yup, you have to come see! Hey, the first taste is always free! [But seriously, it's pretty easy to get into, and honestly fun. I would recommend it to anyone. As to the future, yes it could break your heart. But WoW is getting into its lifespan, so the odds are also decent that it can jump the shark (although maybe you trust Blizzard more--I could see that argument).]

Nema,
You may wanna talk with Sim to see what he's doing for preordering. I might have to end up getting the preorders for you. Closed beta is ending on Monday and Open beta for Preorders starts March 30th and non-preorders get to play on April 4th. I think you applied for the closed beta, so if you don't plan on ordering, wait until April 4th to register an open beta account.

Interesting article in Lord of the Rings Online Vault. lotrovault.ign.com/View.php?view=Articles.Detail&id=42Couple of things mentioned that piqued my interest. 600,000 users in open beta! And an additional 1m after that?! Whoa. The part that will interest FX in general, the changes to the music system. Neat! I can't say that I understand all of what they were talking about, but any kind of improvements in the already cool music system, I suppose are good. I'm keeping my eyes open for the time of the end of the world events, still nothing that I can find. If someone else sees anything, please let us know. Have a great day.

Thanks for the heads-up, Lorcan! The part that will interest FX in general, the changes to the music system. Neat! I can't say that I understand all of what they were talking about, but any kind of improvements in the already cool music system, I suppose are good. I, too, am filled with questions regarding those vague bullet points. The subjects he touches on could be interpretted a couple different ways, but I am glad they indicated an intention to improve the music system, since it is promising at the moment, but not perfect, IMO. Here's my speculations on what they might be planning: so look forward to upcoming improvements such as:
An ABC notation player We could play actual music notes instead of the numbers? Will they be mapped all over the keyboard, or arranged in piano-style rows? What about sharps and flats? Polyphony support Currently, you can play more than one note at once (polyphany) but I guess you'll be able to play more than two or three at once. The greatest improvement here would be if you can play notes in the middle range simultaneously with the higher and lower octaves without using SHIFT and CTRL. Ability to share and input standardized notation Super cool! How complicated will this be? (And how many people would use it?) I'm sure there are programs out there that already do this, but I've never worked with them. Command line playing of any song in your library I guess this means you can save songs as a macro, then play it all with one keystroke? Ability toggle quantizing (the lining up of notes on the beats) Hmm, this is good for people with poor rhythm. Normally, you quantize notes that you have inputted by recording a live melody so that the melody sounds robot-perfect on playback. I wonder if you could set the live input to shift your notes, however. Sustained notes Hurray! This will allow for more complicated melodies. At the moment, you are stuck doing "plink, plink, plink"-sounding eighth-notes, at least on the stringed instrument. Percussion/Bass instruments Yay! Ommni Box!

Well I finally made it back to MMO land, kind of. My roomie bought the game last night so I made a character while he was out today. I'm Papogorpas the elven lore-master, on the Brandywine server. My roommate is Taiko, a dwarf (guardian or champion, I can't recall) also on Brandywine.
My time will be limited to when he's in class or gone, but I'm definitely up for gaming with the old SWG crew. Add me as a friend and I'll game whenever possible...most likely MWF, 10 am until 1 or 2 pm (depending on my work schedule and if the roomie is in class or not)

LOL, Bella, it sounds like you're sneaking use of the computer as soon as your roomie leaves the room, and then when the key turns in the door, you flip the machine off and throw yourself across the room! I bet he opens with the Character Selection screen and thinks, "Who the hell is that toon?" ;)Just Kidding
