Hey Austinites, The line-up for the Austin City Limits Festival in late September has been announced, and though I absolutely cannot stand big three-day outdoor concerts like this, I may have to go once again, because the many guests are just so damn good! The real clincher for me is that they've added my hero, psychedlic rock spacecase Roky Erickson (yes, the guy I named my favorite CoH character for), and this guy never plays full shows anymore. I'd die bitter and unhappy if I missed that, so I'm giving serious thought to attending. Any of you folks in the area are invited to meet up. www.austincitylimits.com/festival/default.aspOh, and Asphyxia, Widespread is playing two (2) sets. Texas really isn't that far from Cali, is it? (Just like California isn't really that big, he he).

I've thought about this, but I do have my sights set on the WP Aspen Jazz shows. I know friends in Colorado and missed the Red Rocks run there this past June. Doing two festivals in September sounds kinda costly too. I'm still trying to figure out where I will stay and what the cost will be for the Aspen festival. Plus, there's this I was looking at too: www.jamcruise.comLook at the line-up and the actual cruise itself.

Texas really isn't that far from Cali, is it? Nah, only 1600 miles or so.That's how far it is from Austin, anyway. From Texas (that is, from El Paso) it's a mere thou'.

That's one thing I really dislike about Texas. Too big. When I would drive back home to Georgia, it seemed like half the trip was spent in Texas.
Dry, hot, Texas.

Everytime I've gone to Texas I've had a bad experience. I don't exactly like Texas anymore. I'll stay in California. It's nicer. ;D

I got the flu in northern california, and my doctor prescribed driving to southern california as a cure.
You're state is HUGE.
(that is a false story, but your state is still huge)

Only cuz your state is TINY! But if you stretch NJ out and flip it around, it kinda looks like CA.

I love CA, but have had many good moments (family) in TX. I love both places actually. Each has its allure to me. Then again, I love anyplace outside of the confines of what I call home.
Still considering ACL, but I just thought about something. Panic usually plays two sets in a single show. What may be happening there at ACL is that they are granting them about 90+ minutes to do their normal 1st & 2nd sets as they would at any other show they perform.
At the NOLA JazzFest, they (Panic) have been the 1st (if I am not mistaken) band allowed to play a two set show there and have been welcomed back since that time (3 years after the 1st year single set I believe) to 'always' perform a 2-set show. Quite the accomplishment since I believe Phish's only performance at Jazzfest was a single shot set (and a disaster as far as gate crashers).
I still don't know about going to ACL, I've yet to see Austin and would love to take in that city. I've spent meager time in El Paso, Houston, Shertz (sic) and San Antonio, but mostly know Corpus Christi where my mother's family is.
Don't Mess With Texas!

I still don't know about going to ACL, I've yet to see Austin and would love to take in that city. At 500,000 people, theres not that much to take in. I mean, I suppose we've got 6th Street. And South by Southwest. /shrug

A friend of mine used to live in Austin and Austin does have its little music scene and the many bars that are a crawls distance from each other from what I understand have live bands playing.
But then, he could have just been a happy bar fly and drunk most of the time.
As far as taking in a city, I could get a rise out of just being in a different place other than my own home. Socializing with the locals is one of my favorite pastimes when I visit new places. During a festival event, the amount that can be taken in is quite an experience in itself. I love festivals! Especially music fests. Nothing better than heaps of music, drinks and happy peoples having a great time!
