I made so many typos in that post, I really wasn't sure you'd understand anything I said. It was like static, but laden with stupitidy. Stupic? Stapid?

Hey buckaroos! The film Serenity launched in cinemas on Friday and did just over 10 million over the weekend, so I'm hopeful that the gods of Hollywood will see fit to bless is with a couple of sequels, or better yet a new Firefly spin-off series. If you have any interest in good science fiction please think about taking it in on a big screen near you. And if you like it, feel free to tell a pal, then go see it multiple times, as I will be doing. I thought the big screen adaptation was pretty damn good. The friend sitting next to me said, quote, "That looked just as pretty as Revenge of the Sith, and for half the cost." (Debate!) And the audience definitely enjoyed it, even let loose with a little applause at the end. Anybody been out to see it yet and have any opinions to share? P.S. Do not let anybody give away any spoilers concerning the film to you! I was very surprised by some of the permanent changes made by Joss Whedon in writing the film, but I'll not say more than that. But I will say that if you thought the Reavers were an interesting part of the Firefly universe, then you will definitely want to go see the movie, and soon.

Just a tid bit, there is rumor that Serenity is the first of a trilogoy. This is just a rumor at this time, research is in progress. Ok, real quick, I found this article, and in it it states that if it does well enough, and he is able, there will be at least one sequel. www.moviehole.net/news/6251.htmlHere's the article ^.

well, I usually go into most movies expectign the worst: My intention is that if I expect it to be bad, and am at least entertained, then I figgure My pennies are well spent. If I expect it to be bad, and it is bad, at least I'm not dissapointed, and If I expect it to be bad and its Worse, then I demand My $ back and make a big fuss.
With Serenity I broke that rule... I went into it Expecting good things, and was Blown away, this movie far exceeded my expactations, which were already set pretty darned high.
However I should reccomend at least seeing the pilot episode (if not the entire series) before you watch the movie.
*whew* And I typed all that with no spoilers, I'm quite proud of myself.

I can only say one thing about Serenity without spoiling it.
It was fucking amazing.
I highly, highly, highly recommend seeing the show first. I've heard from people who haven't seen the series/only saw part of the series saying that they really liked it too, but... I just don't see how it can hold the same emotional impact. I really think you get a lot more out of the film having seen the entire TV series first.

Yeah fine, rub it right in! "see the show first" blah blah blah - you all make me sick! With your "ooh look we have science fiction on TV" country! Well, I'll be able to give you an opinion of someone who hasn't seen the series before they see the movie I suppose. Is that looking on the bright side?

I took my mom to see it, she had only seen the pilot and "train job". She enjoyed the movie, wasn't confused by anything.... but she didn't have nearly the same emotional response I had.
So yah Sims.... try and find the dvd boxset if at all possible.

Ok, i just got home so i can finally post. I've been at stanford hospital with my sister for the last week (she had a tumor on her kidney but it's not cancerous and she's gonna be ok now) or i would have posted before.
Of course the movie was freaking sweet and made me laugh, and made me cry (yeah i cry at movies, wanna make something of it!?), and it made me applaud which is something that i just do not do. The movie is just too good. And i'm pretty certain that it's not just a fan movie, the person i went to see it with also laughed and cried and applauded and he'd never seen the show (even though i'd prodded him to do so many times in the past). Also just today my step brother was telling me how great it was and he didn't know that it ever was a series. But of course everyone's different and some just may not like it, series or no.

Ewww, a week at the hospital is way not fun. Take your sister to see the movie, when she's feeling up to it! The list of things--little moments, dialogue, characterizations, etc.--that set Serenity apart from other movies is long, in my book. The film just got better the second time I saw it, and I am eager to go see it again. I keep thinking, this is how movies are supposed to make me feel! 'Bout time someone got it right. I'll mention just one favorite moment: I was sitting between two poetry professors when I first saw the film, so when the Operative makes his allusion to the Ancient Mariner, and Mal corrects him, I was very happy. ;D

One of the things that really sets this one apart frm other movies in its class is the fact that people actually got hurt. By the end of the movie the only one that didn'y have a life threatening wound was River...and all she needed was one word from that no name guy who didn't exist. I'd go one, but why? I'd probably say something that would degrade the movie!

Well, saw it on Friday with a group of friends and family. About 10 of us, and only one had actually seen the TV series (after a trip to the US a month ago). The rest of us haven't had a chance (although there are now three or four who have ordered some to be shipped over).
I thought it was great. I didn't feel like I was missing anything - not saying I wasn't, just saying that they did a good job of making it so that anybody could see it.
The characters were great, interactions were marvellous, action sequences highly enjoyable, special effects were sweet.
Was genuinely happy/sad at all the relevant bits, so they did a great job of making it for newbies. Though obviously the impact would have been far less for me than for you guys who have seen the series.
Anyhow, loved it, recommend it to all - regardless of whether you've seen the series or not!

Wow aidin I didn't know you lived out my way... I'm about a 30 minute drive from Stanford. Your sis was in good hands at stanford... a friend of mine had some delicate surgery done there and she's doing better than before she went in. Had I known I'd have brought her flowers or cookies or somethin'.
and I can't wait to see more of Serenity.... more movies NOW! (better yet... re-start the series on Sci-Fi channel!)

Stumbled on some great news this morning, for soundtrack fans (like myself)!: www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B000BLI4PQ/qid=1130252896/sr=2-3/ref=pd_bbs_b_2_3/002-5939560-0451204?v=glance&s=musicThe soundtrack for the film Serenity is currently available by special order only, but in IMHO, Greg Edmonson's original soundtrack for the series is far more desireable. His combination of multicultural flourishes and Old West guitar really nailed both the emotions of the characters and the pervading mood in any given scene, and the actors themselves loved his work (Nathan Fillion would rewatch each episode after it aired just to focus on the addition of the music over the acting). And of course this soundtrack actually contains the Theme Song, which was only present in the movie in an instrumental form at the very end of the credits (worth hanging around in the empty cinema to hear, though)! Available November 9! Great Holiday Gift Idea!
